Having worked with a wide range of different businesses in all sizes and sectors, we are well positioned to offer our advice on apprenticeships. In the last few years, we’ve seen apprenticeships becoming increasingly popular as people look to alternative routes to gaining skills and careers without university debts.
An ongoing government drive also plans to create three million more apprentices by 2020. As part of this, we have seen new regulations come into force last month requiring companies with a wage bill of more than £3 million to pay an apprenticeship levy. Through this levy, they plan to raise an estimated £3 billion to fund more UK apprenticeships.
Will I Be Affected?
Approximately 22,000 organisations, will be required to pay the levy. This will include some small to medium sized companies. If you have a workforce of over 100 people it’s worth contacting our team. We can check if you are over the threshold and make sure your levy contributions are accurately represented.
How Will Employers Benefit?
The levy is set at 0.5% of an employer’s total wage bill, in return contributing employers will receive an annual allowance of £15,000 to spend on apprenticeship training programmes. Employers that do not pay the levy will still be able to access government support for apprenticeships, so it’s always worth asking us to see what kind of support you might receive!
Why Consider Apprentices?
We know that apprentices can offer your business a fresh perspective and help inspire your full-time employees. If your business is encountering a skills shortage or recruitment problem, then apprentices are also an ideal solution. Eager to learn new skills, they will relish the opportunity to make an impression.
If hiring an apprentice is something you might consider, we offer a dedicated recruitment division, able to identify the ideal candidate for your organisation. We can also offer advice on managing an apprentice to help you meet their learning and development needs. It is also worth asking for our advice to ensure you maximise the opportunities presented by the apprenticeships levy.
